Wonderful meal, beautifully prepared. We liked the Dragon Roll so much we ordered another one. Loved the Masu Masu. Everything tastes fresh, with varied, delightful textures, and looks spectacular. The ginger dressing on the house salad is the best I've ever tasted. You can't go wrong with any dish. Efficient, polite wait staff.

The place is now under the new ownership and was recently updated - nice fresh decor and new items on the menu. Love their old favorite Bi Bim Bap and the sushi selection is excellent, as always. Highly recommend.

Poor quality fish. Don't order sashimi. The service was so slow, they seem understaffed. I regret eating here.

I don't have much to complain about when it comes to Sushi Hana. It's a fairly unimpressive-looking sushi joint tucked into a strip mall, and it's obvious that they don't splurge on decor. However, their sushi is top quality. I always test a sushi place out with a simple tuna roll, and this place definitely passed the test. I think they must have just sprayed it with wasabi or something, because there was an overall light spiciness to it that was quite enjoyable. I mooched off my other friends' food and theirs was equally tasty. The ambiance is a little obviously-cheap, but the food is so solid that it's more than worth a visit.

Looks like this place put Ichiyo Sushi out of business!!!

Sushi is never my first choice of food but I highly enjoyed Sushi Hana. I had miso soup and the Pretty Woman roll, you can taste how fresh the ingredients are. Ask for fresh wasabi with your sushi, best wasabi I've ever had. The wait staff is fast and hospitable. They made sure my glass of water was always full and got my food to me within minutes of ordering, great for me since I was on a half hour lunch break. Can't wait to try other dishes here.

Best in the area, in my opinion! Definitely on par with more expensive sushi spots in metro Detroit, just a bonus that this is walking distance from where I live. Bi bim bap is amazing, rolls are always great, miso is wonderful, food comes quickly and the owners and servers are really nice. Can eat a good lunch for under $10.

It's hard to find a decent sushi restaurant in the Birmingham/Bloomfield area. If I could give Tokyo Sushi and Birmingham Sushi Cafe zero stars I would. Sushi Hana is mediocre at best. If you're from the Birmingham area looking for a real sushi experience, make the trip to Noble Fish in Clawson. Notables in the area: Benihana sushi bar (3 star), Ajishin (4-5 star)

Hands down best sushi and sashimi I've had in the states. The tuna, tuna belly, yellowtail, salmon, and white fish sashimi literally melts in your mouth. The new owner is also the chef. He made sure to introduce himself and spoke to us like old friends. He told us about all the new menu items and details he'll be adding in the coming months. I'll definitely be back at least once a week.

This has become our new favorite sushi place. It is super casual and not trendy at all, tucked away in a strip mall. But the sushi is great! They have my husband's favorite shrimp tempura of all sushi places and they have an amazing salmon dish. Actually, all their roles and pieces are great! It is a great no froufrou place. mmmm, sushi

This place is amazing! Tempura appetizer and the box dinners are the way to go. Wonderful owners.

Excellent service, the sushi chef talked with us and gave us free samples of things while he was working since we sat at the bar. Excellent sushi! Chef recommended the volcano and dancing tuna, and he was right! Fantastic!

Sushi Hana is a must visit for anyone near the Woodward area. The sushi and sashimi are simply delectable, and the gyoza makes for an awesome appetizer. In addition, the staff is very kind and attentive and work very hard to provide their customers with a pleasant experience. Also it has free Wi-Fi so I can get something out of the way while waiting. I will be visiting frequently.

I have been here a couple of times now and I am definitely a fan of this sushi joint. Jin the sushi chef is personable and very friendly. The other staff working there are polite and friendly as well. The food is fresh and of good quality. Jin seems to know what he's doing as he always prepares your food creatively and the presentation is always fabulous looking. I have ordered a la carte (the uni is very fresh), chirashi bowl, the torched salmon belly nigiri off their special daily menu, their mango roll which I LOVE, and have also tried their udon. It didn't disappoint me at all. The only reason why I gave four stars was because it was on the pricey side for me but overall, this place is a must try!!!

Not impressed. Sushi was average at best, place was spartan in decor and dirty to boot. And to top it off, no sake/beer/cocktails. I won't be going back.

Really solid lunch. We ordered the "Hana" bento box. The menu stated salmon, tempura shrimp and veggies, seaweed salad, Octopus salad, Nigiri (2), 3 pieces of California roll, and 4 Sashimi - with soup and salad. The place is very clean, and we were greeted and given a table immediately. We were in hurry so we both ordered the bento box when our drinks returned Soup followed quickly, but no salad. No worries, we have a ton of food coming. The portions were relatively small, but there was still a great deal of food. We noticed we didn't get our fish. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing. I got up and asked and was told that they were making it but tried to time it so it didn't sit while we ate the hot food. Wow, very nice of them. Some of the best tempura I've had in along time. Very light, airy, and crispy. The rest of the items in the box were ok, nothing good or bad just ok. The Nigiri consisted of Squid and Tuna,. Squid was not my favorite, had an old taste to it and was a bit slimy. The Tuna was good, but they probably go through this quickly. The Sashimi 2 salmon and 2 Yellow tail...Wooooo Hooo! Thank you really good. The Cali rolls eh? They are what they are. The boxes are 15 each which is a bit much for lunch time but was overall pretty decent place.

I cannot help giving this place all five stars. Jin and the rest of the staff are excellent. Inside is perfect, wood furniture everywhere, beams crossing the ceiling, even the storage behind the bar has a pleasant array of interesting pieces of art and curiosity. The music is thematic and pleasant, low and in the background. Every aspect just subtle enough to let the food take all of your attention. Sit. At. The. Bar. If you are on a date or eating alone, you'll want to see the skill of these chefs as they prepare for you. Larger groups will have space as well, and each plate is art to behold. We had an excellently tender bluefin sashimi. The monkfish liver was unlike any liver you've had before needing little else to compliment the flavor. One of the best crunch rolls with fried sweet potato and toasted almond. And a mango roll which was bursting with flavor. Almost as a side note was their classic California roll, very clean and crisp. We need to come back on Thursday when they get their mystery box of rarities from their distributor. I'm very much looking forward to trying more. Prices are rather low. In comparison to the quality of food and service, this is the best place for sushi in southeast Michigan. Not a review point I'll make lightly, but it would take quite an experience to shake me from this opinion.

Since the remodel it has gone up hill, I think all the fusion rolls they have created are great however they include little fish in there rolls and majority of them consist of more veggies then what your ordering the roll for. Presentation is great, very clean inside and good service. It's not the best but still a decent sushi spot

Awesome place~~ Best sushi ever in Michigan~~ New sushi chef is so good~~~~~~~ I highly recommend this place.

  • Trey C.

This is a really awesome place. The sushi, nigiri (especially soy shrimp) was very well made. The best sushi joint in Bloomfield Hills. The owners are really kind and the atmosphere is quiet and very friendly. I recommend this place to any sushi lovers out there.

This is definitely a "Must go" place. I have tried like 4 times with all different menu and I just loved them all! The chirashi which has so many different sashimi pieces in a bowl with full of well seasoned rice and egg. It would be a total satisfaction if you weren't sure what kinda sushi you want. All the sashimi pieces are in a great condition, fresh and colorful and you are gonna just love them. Also, this place has Korean menu such as Bibimbap that you have already known and you can also get Japanese udon as well. Whatever you expect, they are better than that!!

This place has been reopened recently under entirely new staff and underwent complete remodel. There's almost no words I have for how amazing my experience had been. As a sushi enthusiast, I can asses this as probably the best sushi I had in my life!. I've been to buffets and upscale places like kona, myiako or benihana but they don't even come close. I took their raw fish to taste beforehand and its delectable! No gummy stuff as I was given elsewhere. Our sushi chef and the owner came to introduce himself and assure quality. Him as well as the rest of the staff are very nice and professional. Now the place itself also couldn't cease to amaze me. For once I was in a truly Japanese establishment, with authentic Japanese music, decor, menu and staff. How many times did you order machi ice cream and received regular ice cream in green tea flavor? Well, not here. They served me authentic, imported food. Portions are quite larger than in any other sushi place, prices are the same. I strongly, strongly suggest for everyone to have an experience there. They surely earned my frequent business.

Awesome sushi! Definitely the best sushi in the area. Very high quality! Great service!! I'd definitely come back

Terrible service. I brought friends here and was embarrassed at the end of the meal. Waited over an hour for a few pieces of sashimi that I requested to have as an appetizer. Turns out the waitress forgot to give it to the chef even after we asked about it 4 times and her answer was "it's coming". They never apologized for the terrible service and didn't even bother to try and satisfy their customers knowing we were upset. Could have added in a little appetizer for or wait. The soup came out cold which is ridiculous because after I asked for a warm one he said, I'll turn down the air condition".... What? Waiter and waitress speak very poor English and can barely even take your order. will not come back.

Everything has been delicious the last 5 times I've gone to sushi Hana. I ordered a nice variety of sashimi and it was all fresh and tasty. I know they have new ownership so there is a good chance the restaurant has improved over the last year or so. I believe it is only going to get better from here.

  • Rebecca B.

I thought I'd been here once before and liked it...but it was not good today. Miso soup tasted burned some how? I can't describe it. The ginger salad didn't have enough dressing and the bottom was watery like they need a salad spinner. The avocado rolls tasted like nothing and were rubbery. Perhaps made with rice from yesterday? Even the wasabi was a bit bland. The service was good and the place is clean. But I won't be back.

Good Enough food, the kalbi was good but not the best I've tasted. Sadly the place where I had the best is, long gone. A nice pan asian place in Royal Oak, used to be in shopping plaza at Woodward & 13 mile. This place was decent enough to warrant another visit, just not too soon.

Sushi was amazing! The presentation was outstanding and the staff are very people friendly and on top of things. The atmosphere is very relaxed, urban and homey. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone. I have been to many sushi places before but this is at the top of my list by far. Check it out!

My secret spot - Sushi Hana. A quiet atmosphere with comfortable dining setting. There are a line of booths and also tables to fit small and larger parties. The service is prompt and fully dedicated to a smooth dining experience. The green tea is quality and bottomless. I ordered a chicken bim bim bob - it comes with a ginger salad and miso soup. this is one miso soup i love to eat - bc it is not too salty. bim bim bop has lettuce which you dont typically find in a bim bim bob - love it tho. id go back!! prices are cheap too!!

Our first visit to Sushi Hana was simply a happy surprise--we don't have to drive 20 mins to Clawson for good sushi! 3 Stars. Our second visit was key. We rolled in without realizing we were just missing their lunch hours; they were closing. Still, my husband went inside to double-check and then he, the manager and the waiter were all waiving me inside. The thing is, hubby and I had had a dark and stormy night before--both of us grumbling, both of us eventually drunk and stumbly... This gesture, the owners staying open a little later for our lunch, seemed to brighten our mood, cure our hangovers, and make me a perma-Sushi Hana fan. My favorites so far are the Catipillar roll (any eel rolls really), spicy tuna, salmon, and we really liked the Dynamite. All of the rolls we ordered were fresh and delicious, and again, it meant the world to us that they served us after hours. (PS We weren't the only ones, they also took a phone order for pick-up.) Happy to give Sushi Hana our business and we will definitely be back. Recipe for that 5th star? More drink options (Sake! or even just Dr. Pepper...) and more adventurous rolls, especially the kind that turn up the heat. Thank you, Sushi Hana!

Came in here for a quick lunch the other day and had a tasty time! The place isn't anything fancy--no crazy rolls filled with stuff that you don't normally find in sushi. Just good, simple rolls that are fresh and taste great. I ordered a spicy tuna and another roll whose name escapes me but was a mix of a few different types of fish in a spicy sauce with cucumber and avocado. Really delicious and not overwhelmingly spicy which my tender taste buds appreciated. The rolls are admittedly pretty small (the standard 6 pieces per but they're on the teeny side) which I was ok with because the prices weren't crazy and I'm also attempting to watch my portions so it was the perfect amount of food for me. 2 rolls + a diet coke = $12. Not too shabby. Especially for the quality of food. Staff is friendly but not hovery (not a word? Ok.) which I appreciated since I was also doing a bit of work as I ate. The space is small but comfortable. The booths were slightly narrow in the seat but it actually helped my very poor posture! Just a note--they close at for a few hours each day between lunch and dinner. I didn't realize that so I kept right on typing away while I sipped my diet after I finished eating. I finally realized I was alone while they were cleaning up the joint and then I felt like a massive jerk for holding them up. But they were really polite and never once asked me to leave which I thought was nice.

Today was my first time at Sushi Hana. The sushi chef caused an uproar about making too much sushi. He was complaining and yelling in his native tongue and didn't know we were of the same nationality. When he found out, he didn't come out to the front until we left. My sister worked at a sushi restaurant before, and she said that they are serving not well made sushi. Although it may taste good, it isn't being made properly. Also, they charged $1 for a tbsp of sauce, but you don't know until you look at your receipt. I guess if you aren't a big sushi person, this is a mediocre place for cheap sushi. The prices are much cheaper compared to most sushi restaurants. However, I think I'm willing to pay a little more for quality sushi. I am not a picky person and I don't ever feel compelled to write a review but I was compelled to for this restaurant.

Location in yelp is not correct actual location is actually Woodward & us business 24 Sushi Hana is complimented by a light & bright interior, we were greeted warmly & excellent service prevailed during the meal. We started with Miso soup & it is excellent , full of taste & full of vegetables, unlike the usual watery Miso soup found in many area restaurants. Next was the Tempura appetizer split between @ people, it is a very generous portion & the tempura is lightly battered & very fresh tasting. Lastly we ordered the Sushi lunch plate which was 12 pieces (6 California rolls) 6 misc chosen by the Chef & Changing daily & i had the Dragon roll (Avocado, eel & Shrimp) 8 pieces. Neither of these are earth shattering in their freshness or innovation but were good & enjoyable lunches. I liked everything about Sushi Hana without being blown away, not Sharuku or Yotsuba class but if i lived in the Woodward corridor of Bloomfield Hills i would certainly eat here often as the decor, service & food are all good!!

Some of the best Sushi in the area. Service is exceptional, portions are good and the prices are reasonable. Try the fish salad, fresh, and loaded with fish. I also like the chirashi. The staff is helpful, friendly andand very nice, always there to fill your glass and talk. The chefs are excellent and are friendly as well and create fantastic sushi. Worth the trip for lunch!

I love sushi hana!!! Great sushi and great prices. Also...the sushi chef's totally learn who you are so quickly and always give you a warm hello when you walk in the door. I swear the whole place says goodbye to you when you leave. I don't think I have ever had a bad meal at Sushi Hana!

If you are a fan of California rolls or grocery store take out this is the place. If you have a more sophisticated palate it is beyond disappointing. Horrible flavour, not fresh. Terrible service as well.

After Ronin and Noble comes Sushi Hana. This is a super casual small restaurant with quick and extremely pleasant service. The rolls are really small and are priced accordingly (a rainbow was $7ish and normally they are about $15). The tuna was kind of tough, which was odd. But small rolls and tough tuna aside, this place was pretty good and nicely priced! Some favorites were the dancing and the dynamite rolls. No liquor license = sad sushi session without a giant Sapporo or sake

Can't get enough of their spicy tuna rolls and caterpillar rolls. The green salad, miso soup, and gyoza are quite tasty as well. The staff is always very pleasant and accommodating to boot.

Sushi Hana is a small sushi bar in Bloomfield Hills. It has a good variety of sushi, but by no means does it have an extensive menu. The inside is fairly plain, and it can get really crowded during peak eating hours, but the staff is warm and friendly, and the sushi is always good. Also, the prices are actually pretty decent compared to the more hip and fancy sushi restaurants around town. This isn't the kind of place you go for a cool sushi experience -- but it's a safe bet every time you want a good sushi meal. Personally I've never had a bad sushi experience from this place. I enjoy getting carry out from here. Not only do I like the food, but they are so nice. I don't mind sitting and waiting for my take out order either, because they are always making sure I am comfortable during the wait. I usually get California, spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, spicy yellowtail or some tuna and salmon nigiri. Spicy yellowtail, however, is the reason why I give this place props. I've definitely had some bad yellowtail experiences, even at some of the best sushi restaurants. I've never had bad yellowtail at Sushi Hana (knock on wood), though, which says a lot.

It's a 3 plus to me. The selection of sushi is good and priced at a value. It's far from fancy, just solid standard rolls and fare. No alcohol but plenty if green tea.

  • daniel s.

When judging sushi restaurants, I only care about 3 traits: price, quality, and roll variation. I can safely say that all three categories receive check marks. Sushi Hana is not an extravagant joint by any means; it is small, quaint, and does not yield gaudy decorations 'n music. For a relaxing and cleansing meal, Sushi Hana does its job

WTF? Yelp, you F-ed up royally. I don't know why you locked the address as 2711 Woodward, it doesn't exist. I wasted a good hour trying to get to the right place The correct address is: 42656 Woodward Ave Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304-5031 The rolls are so-so but they are mega cheap. The kalbi is just to die for. It's better than all other places except at Mrs. Cho's. 4 stars just for the kalbi.

Never tried the sushi, but the bimbop is good for a quick lunch.

I used to come here often while in highschool and decided to try it again for old times sake a few weeks ago. I had the rainbow roll and the nabeyaki udon, but it just wasn't as good as i remembered it used to be. I heard the ownership changed since I last went.. maybe thats the reason... I wouldn't go back again..

    (2)
  • o o.

good but not great! small, cozy with spot on service, although, it can occasionally suffer with the lunch rush. the sashimi and sushi is fresh but not the best i have tasted in Detroit. The miso is lacking and the bim bim bop and other dishes are average. Don't get me wrong this place is good with even better prices but with so many other good Japanese restaurants this isn't my first choice. A good option for lunch.

  • Charles B.

I work nearby and have therefore been here a lot. I wavered between 2 and 3 stars, but went with 2 because, as the guide says, I have experienced better, even at the "bargain" end of the sushi spectrum. Sushi Hana is OK, but the place over where Opdyke meets Square Lake Rd. (Ichiyo Sushi ) is better, both in terms of food and service. The be bim bop is OK, and the sushi is usually decent for the price, although sometimes doesn't seem its freshest (obviously important with sushi). Udon soups are perhaps the most reliably good meal here. Service is spotty -- sometimes pretty good, but sometimes, especially during the lunch rush when they are servicing takeout orders as well as the dining room, can be slow. No liquor license, so not a good dinner option.

Sushi Hana is a fine example of a great little place giving it's all to provide the customer the best experience possible. The owner and staff are extremely welcoming and efficient. The Chefs are highly skilled. The food is of the best quality and at very reasonable prices. I have brought many people here, and without exception, they all agree this is one of, if not the best sushi you can get around town. Kam sa ham ni da.

    (4)
  • Corky L.

Very mediocre at best. Had the Udon....very weak, as was the Bim bim bap. No taste and small portions.

    (2)
  • laurin p.

Service can be very hit or miss, but the food is solid and prices reasonable. If you understand that, you can have a great lunch. They have great bibimbop, a fresh spicy tuna roll, and a delicious spider roll (one of my favorites). I would caution a bit about carry-out. They can get pretty busy during lunch and they make it clear that carry-out is a last priority.

As already written the setting is plain but you get paid back with fast, friendly service and very good sushi at a very reasonable price. We are fans and go quite frequently.

Service is great, but this is table stakes for sushi restaurants. Food is decent but no where near quality of Noblefish which may even be cheaper.

    (3)
  • Atom G.

Very nice small sushi stop. If you are not in the mood for the fish I suggest the Bi Bim Bop. Has a lot of items on the menu that are good Bento Box, Kalbi and various noodle dishes. Lunch time is very busy here if you need a booth try to come early or late but right at noon it is packed. Very friendly and always great. One of my favorites!
